Increase in fuel prices, will it affect your drive to success?

by Kathryn 23. April 2010 07:12

What effect has the increase in fuel duty had on businesses, bookkeepers and accountants?

Fuel duty was meant to rise by 3p a litre on the 1st April 2010, but Chancellor Alistair Darling decided to phase in the rise instead with a further 1p rise in October and then again in January. A year ago, fuel at the pumps was about 30p a litre cheaper. But it has risen steadily since then and has now reached a record high.

So how has this affected business?

As we know many businesses outsource their bookkeeping and accounting tasks to professionals within the industry. So what are the consequences of this fuel increase to those that provide a bookkeeping service to businesses?More...

by Kathryn 19. April 2010 11:00

Fusion Accounts receive a call from an accountancy practice in Uganda.

The power of the web never ceases to amaze us. Not only do we have clients in the north and south of Ireland and the UK but since we launched our online accounting software we have received an increasing number of calls and emails from accountants and resellers in countries such as Sri Lanka and India.

With Fusion Accounts being web-based it can be accessed anywhere in the world simply via an internet connection.

Having received the phone call from Uganda yesterday morning we had our online accounting software configured with the Ugandan currency (UGX) and VAT codes in less than one hour.More...

Will the travel disruptions caused by the volcano highlight to business owners the importance of having anytime, anywhere access which is offered via web-based business applications such as online accounting software?

by Kathryn 19. April 2010 09:48

The eruption of a volcano in the tiny, isolated island nation of Iceland is threatening to turn into a major headache for businesses and travellers across Europe and around the world.

Planes were first grounded in the UK at midday on Thursday amid fears particles in the ash cloud from Eyjafjallajoekull could cause engines to shut down.

Mr Brown believes this is one of the most serious transport disruptions we have faced. “It's got financial consequences as well as human consequences and we will do everything in our power to make sure all the arrangements are in place to help people where possible to get back home." More...

What value would you put on your laptop?

by Kathryn 15. April 2010 04:19

How valuable is your laptop to you? Last week the hard drive on my laptop crashed. It was approaching the Easter holidays and as you can imagine I was looking forward to getting a few days off. Having arrived at the office that Friday morning, I turned on my laptop only to discover the dreaded blue screen staring back at me.

So what are the consequences of seeing the blue screen? In most cases it means that you can’t recover any files or data that have been stored on your computer.

How many times do your work colleagues, managers, boss, tell you to backup your data on a regular basis? Thankfully in our office we use web-based applications, e.g. our online accounting software Fusion Accounts and a web-based CRM system so I was able to continue working without any disruption. To be fair I did lose a few pictures and email addresses in my outlook so I have made a pack to take regular backups of such things in future.More...

What are the implications for businesses using sage instant accounts if they need foreign currency so that they can trade internationally?

by Kathryn 5. March 2010 10:52

Sage Instant Accounts can be purchased by a business for as little as £115+Vat. As I am sure you will all agree this is a very reasonable price for accounting software. What happens however if this business decides in a few months down the line that they need to be able to create invoices and process transactions in a currency other than the currency their business currently operates in?

The only option for this business is to upgrade their software to the Sage 50 Accounts Professional 2010 which is priced at £1075+Vat. This is an increase of £960 which is just under a grand.

When businesses purchase sage software via the Sage website they are also given the option of purchasing sage cover. For those businesses who wish to purchase Sage Instant Accounts and opt for the Sage cover the price increases from £115 to £215.More...

by Kathryn 17. February 2010 06:00

We received an email yesterday from a Sage Accounts reseller.

The basis of the email was to advice of the Sage Line 50 V11 End of Life Policy. See below.

‘From 1/4/10, Sage Line 50 V11 Users will no longer be able to upgrade their software to new Sage 50 2010 without having to purchase Sage Cover Extra’

I can imagine how frustrating it must be for Sage users when products are no longer supported and businesses need to upgrade their software.
